Cultural Arts

PROJECT SCOPE

This grant will support projects that deeply engage people of all ages and all economic circumstances in the performing arts and visual arts: improving lives through greater access and personal experiences.  Groups may apply for single year or multi-year funding of up to $3,500.00 for 1-3 years.  The award will be made through a competitive process.  Among project the possibilities (along with other projects not yet dreamed of):

• An awards competition that would identify and support aspiring arts (performing or visual);
• A hands-on arts project and show in a retirement home for residents who have less access to arts experiences;
• An education program that deepens the understanding of the arts by young people;
• An exhibition or performance of a new or emerging artist, especially to advance the artist’s career to the next level;
• A series of Master’s Classes for local musicians;
• An initiatives that would lead more people in the community to identify with and deepen understanding of the local arts community;
• A major production of a well known work by first time performers or students;
• Other programs that expand an individual’s vision of the arts through experiences and education.

The fund will not support:

• Partial sponsorships of standing exhibits, on-going events, or regular season performances of an existing arts organization (Note: Special productions are not excluded, especially if they involve attracting new audiences or engaging nontraditional performers.)
• The regular annual programming of existing arts organizations
• General operating support for annual expenses of existing arts organizations.

ELIGIBILITY

Cumberland Community Foundation welcomes grant requests from nonprofit organizations that:

• are located in and provide services to Cumberland County; and
• are classified as a traditional public charitable organizations in IRS Subsection 501(c)(3), Section 509(a)(1); or
• Qualified government agencies.

If the organization is operating under a different IRS section, that must be indicated on the application.

DEADLINE AND REVIEW TIMELINE

The Data Form & Proposal must be received by January 25, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.  Applications will not be accepted if they are incomplete or submitted with bindings, paper clips, or staples. 

The review process takes approximately 10 weeks from submission of your proposal and the final decision.  The final step is approval by the Board of Directors of Cumberland Community Foundation.  Nonprofit agencies will be notified about the decision by letter, stating the outcome of their applications and, if successful, providing information about how to receive payment of the grant. 

Award and reporting requirements
Each successful applicant will be required to sign a grant agreement with Cumberland Community Foundation before receiving a grant payment and submit a report at the end of the grant period.

LOBBYING THE BOARD

Lobbying addressed directly to a Foundation board member, staff, or committee member is considered inappropriate.  Cumberland Community Foundation’s board, staff, and volunteers have all signed Conflict of Interest statements and are committed to upholding the highest standards in this area.  If a member is contacted on behalf of a grantee, the board/committee member will disclose the contact during discussion of the application will remove themselves from the deliberation process if they feel their objectivity has been compromised by the contact.
