2008 Nonprofit Leadership Announced

Fayetteville, NC:   Cumberland Community Foundation announced the 2008 recipient of its annual Nonprofit Leadership Award at a reception on Friday, November 21, 2008 for nonprofits in our community.  The award recognizes exemplary nonprofit leadership by an individual board member and recognizes the very important role of “board member.”  The Foundation awards one grant in the amount of $1,000 for staff training and board development.  The 2008 recipient is Joseph Boles, Board President for The CARE Clinic.

Mr. Boles began his service to The CARE Clinic in 2002 as a member of the Development Committee and became a member of the Board of Directors in 2003.   He is currently serving his 2nd term as President of the Board.  Mr. Boles has participated with his time, talent and resources to improve The CARE Clinic and to carry forth its mission.  From making repairs on equipment, participating in fundraising events, encouraging fellow business people in the community to donate or discount supplies and services for the new clinic facility and making himself available for the staff when needed, Joseph Boles has been a true leader.  Cathy Ory, Executive Director of The CARE Clinic said “Mr. Boles believes passionately in the work of The CARE Clinic.  To quote him, ‘Most of these (patients) are working class people.  They just need a break.  If we can change one person’s life for the better or save one person’s life, everything that we’ve done with the clinic has been worthwhile.’  Thank you for being an active and enthusiastic leader.”

Dr. Loleta Wood Foster, Vice-President of the Board of Directors, announced the award at an annual reception in honor of Cumberland County nonprofits to celebrate November as Nonprofit Awareness Month.  Its purpose is to educate the public about the contributions nonprofits make every day in our community, to foster a better understanding of their value and importance and to increase volunteerism and philanthropy.  More information can be found about Nonprofit Awareness Month from the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits www.ncnonprofits.org/nam.asp.

Cumberland Community Foundation is a 501-c-3 public foundation that manages more than 400 endowment funds with combined assets of $38 million.  The foundation makes philanthropy and its benefits available to everyone in the community.
