Impact: Education

Quality education is our number one priority. Positively impacting reading skills and high school graduation rates will change the game for all of Cumberland County, NC.
Cumberland Community Foundation has a long history of supporting education in Cumberland County. In fact, the purpose of our very first grant in 1980 was to help students succeed.

We still believe quality education is a game-changer and a fundamental right. When people are effectively educated, they are more likely to find meaningful employment, better equipped to support themselves and their families, and more compelled to be involved in and give back to their community. We also believe — and research shows — that communities with strong education systems have increased success in addressing the basic needs of their residents.
To positively impact high school graduation rates throughout Cumberland County, we will continue to:

  • Increase our monetary investments in education; and
  • Intensify the effort we devote to working with both public and private sector community partners who are working to transform Cumberland County’s education system.

If we as an organization and community care about promoting opportunity and reducing inequality, education is the place to start.
