The Cape Fear Regional Theatre received start up funding for its comprehensive children's theater program from the Foundation's unrestricted funds. |
 Funds are Flexible
The Foundation can manage virtually any type of gift for any charitable purpose. Your fund can be tailored to fit your particular charitable vision, or the various interests of family members. Your gift can be unrestricted, to be used by the community foundation to meet the greatest needs of the community, now and in the future. You can also designate a particular organization within your area of interest, such as children's health or for a specific community, or create a scholarship in memory of a loved one. You can also establish a fund that allows you to be more actively involved by suggesting grants from your fund whenever you choose.
It's Simple
Creating a fund can take less than a day and can be accomplished with a wide variety of assets. A permanent endowment fund can be created with as little as $5,000. Funds can also be established through a will or bequest - or through numerous other innovative planned giving techniques. For specific language to incorporate a bequest to the Cumberland Community Foundation into your Will or Trust, please telephone Mary Holmes, Executive Director, at (910) 483-4449 and request a copy of our Language for Bequests from Wills or Living Trusts. You can also e-mail your request.
Secure
You can be sure we're here for the long haul - in perpetuity. We expect that donors will create funds designed to last long into the future. Most do. And if someday the need for the fund passes, our Board of Directors will find the nearest possible use for the money by applying the variance power set forth in our Articles of Incorporation. A fund currently used to help find a cure for polio might someday be used for research on multiple sclerosis. Donors to the community foundation can be assured that their charitable wishes will be permanently fulfilled.
Tax Advantaged
As a public charity, a community foundation offers the highest level of tax benefits for charitable giving. Donors can give any type of property -- cash, stock, closely held securities, insurance, real estate -- and receive maximum tax benefits. Furthermore, they can integrate their contributions with their overall financial and estate planning, maximizing tax advantages. Cumberland Community Foundation does not render legal, accounting or tax preparation advice. Consult your tax and legal advisors about your specific situation.
Responsible Stewardship
Cumberland Community Foundation's Board of Directors oversees all funds of the foundation, our investments, administration and grantmaking. Individually, the men and women who make up our Board of Directors represent a selection of North Carolina's most distinguished civic and business leaders. They are directly responsible to our donors and the community.
Geographically Focused
We are the community endowment for Cumberland County- which means we focus on our local area and get to know social needs, arts groups, and neighborhoods. We can help donors make sure that their gifts are directed to the places where they will do the most good, both now and in the future.
Cost Effective
By pooling contributions for administration and investment purposes, we can provide full management services to each fund at a fraction of the cost of administering each separately - so our donors' money goes to charity rather than to overhead.
Sound Financial Management
Under the guidance of our Board of Directors, the community foundation's assets are invested with a goal of long-term growth by some of the nation's most outstanding financial investment firms. Investment returns for all fund managers are regularly scrutinized by our Investment Committee and evaluated by our independent auditors.
