Partnership with NCGives In 2007, Cumberland Community Foundation received a grant from NCGives to expand outreach to givers of time, talent, and treasure through giving circles and to inform givers through community knowledge. http://www.ncgives.org/content/page/id/20 The Mission Statement of NCGives is to celebrate, connect, inspire and grow the giving of time, talent and treasure in North Carolina by sharing stories, models and tools, particularly among communities of color, women and young people. With support from NCGives, we have established two giving circles. What is A GIVING CIRCLE?
A giving circle is a pooled grantmaking fund, enabling members to combine their contributions, learn together about issues of interest and possible recipients, and decide jointly on distributions. Each giving circle is unique, reflecting the character and interests of its members. Thus, giving circles vary in structure, focus and size. Cumberland Community Foundation currently hosts two giving circles. Join one of our giving Circles: E.E. Smith Academic Excellence Giving Circle This giving circle is comprised of men and women of all ages and backgrounds who are committed to improving the education achievement of youth in E.E. Smith attendance area schools. The group will learn ways to make a lasting difference for the schools in this attendance area and support excellence in math and science. Giving Circle Coordinator is Kimmie Teague Nettles (Kimmie@cumberlandcf.org). Learn more about the E.E. Smith Academic Excellence Giving Circle
Women's Giving Circle of FayettevilleWomen make up the membership of this giving circle which seeks to build and encourage philanthropy in women, engage all generations, and encourage women to be more intentional with their giving. Their funding focus is women and girls in Cumberland County. The 2009 grantmaking emphasis is on programs that support basic needs, such as food, shelter and health care. Giving Circle Coordinator is Meghan Wieten-Scott (Meghan@cumberlandcf.org). Learn more about the Women’s Giving Circle of Fayetteville
