Lilly Endowment Challenge
guidelines and application

The Lilly Endowment Challenge Grant Program of Cumberland Community Foundation is made possible by the Ashton W. Lilly Fund for Philanthropy, a charitable fund created in honor of the great philanthropy of Ashton LillyThe program is designed to assist non-profit organizations to build permanent endowment funds with Cumberland Community Foundation. 

The following organizations are recent recipients of the Lilly Endowment Challenge.   

  • 2009-2010:  The Cape Fear Botanical Garden was awarded $1:$1 matching funds up to $50,000 in for gifts to the Cape Fear Botanical Garden Children’s Fund, which endows support for the garden’s programming for children.  The Lilly Endowment Challenge grant is made possible by the Ashton W. Lilly Fund for Philanthropy .
  • 2008:  The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra was awarded $1:$1 matching funds up to $25,000 for gifts to the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra Endowment, which will help secure the long-term future of quality symphonic music in our community.  This grant was made possible by the Ashton W. Lilly Fund for Philanthropy.
