Meeting children's Needs

Every summer since 1993, Cumberland Community Foundation’s Summertime Kids grants program has provided fun and healthy activities for children.  Each summer children in our underserved and under-resourced communities are able to participate in safe and enjoyable educational programs.

Summertime Kids serves three types of non-profit organizations.

• Neighborhood organizations develop summer programs to meet the needs of children and families in small, sometimes isolated communities.  Volunteers who are dedicated provide tutoring and enrichment to bridge the education achievement gap.
• Community organizations offer exciting programs throughout the summer to the general public.  Our grants enable these groups to provide scholarships so that every child may join in the fun, regardless of economic circumstance.
• Special needs organizations receive support from Summertime Kids grants for program expenses.  This allows them to prevent loss of developmental skills by offering a continuum of educational, social, recreational and life skills opportunities, while families receive necessary respite.

It is clear that Summertime Kids has had a tremendous positive impact on our community’s youth.  The model is a proven success. View the powerpoint presentation below to see how Cumberland Community Foundation grants are making a difference now and in the future.

With your support, we can ensure that Summertime Kids happens every year through an endowment dedicated to this purpose.  This endowment will increase the number of kids who have a happy, safe and educational summer and increase the use of community resources by children who might not access them otherwise.
